It's currently 2:30 pm and I can't get myself motivated. What's even stranger is that my wife took our son to visit her parents for a few days and I got all the time in the world to get things done - or at least jump up and down on the bed in my underwear while eating pizza like a little kid.

And if you saw my Facebook post earlier today, I actually put V8 in my juicer. That's pathetic. It doesn't get any more lazy than that. I guess we all have those days now and then.

So, I thought I'd be at least a little productive today and share with you a tactic that you can use to 'sell out' a new massage technique/package real fast even before you advertise it. Not that I've actually used the ninja tactic I'm about to show you (wink-wink). I'm just sayin'. Hypothetically - if you were to ask me how to do this and if you were to listen to me - not that you should (wink-wink), this is what I'd suggest. Hypothetically. Just sayin'.

Let's first assume that you learned a new massage technique like, I dunno, Myofascial Release. First, don't call it that. The general public has no friggin' clue what that is. It sounds as exciting as watching paint dry. People will say, "Myo... what?!"

Now if your intention is to confuse and bore the crap out of everyone, then by all means, call it that. But if you don't, give it a name that people can relate to like: "Instant Neck Relief Method" (or whatever. You get the point.)

Here's what you then do - write a personal letter or email (letter is preferred) to your existing clients that says something like this:

"Hi Bob! This is Mary from World's Best Massage. How are you? I'd like to know if you'd be so kind as to do me a favor. You see, I just learned this really cool new massage technique that is giving immediate relief for people with chronic neck pain like yourself. I know that you've been struggling with it for a long time and getting only temporary relief - even with regular massage sessions. Well, I tried it on a few of my family members who also suffer from nagging neck pain and - I don't know if this is coincidence or not - but they're now staying pain-free for a solid week at a time. Again - I'm not convinced that this technique is the 'real deal' or not, but that's what they're telling me.

So I'd like to know if you'd be willing to give this a shot for yourself and let me know exactly what kind of pain-relief you'll experience. To tell you the truth, I'm a little nervous about advertising this technique to the public yet because I'm not fully convinced myself. I'd love to try this out on you and measure your results.

I have a few openings this week that I can squeeze you in at. To thank you for your time, I'll give you $10 off this session. Again, you'd really be doing me a huge favor, Bob. Because you're a friend and long-time client, I'd like to offer this to you first.

Thanks!"

Now, step back and examine this for a moment. You're not trying to 'sell' them something at all. You're asking for a personal favor. They'll be helping you out by paying for a massage session! Can you see how this is a much more personal and different approach than by saying, "50% Off Myofascial Release"? Oh - if you're going to send an email - don't blast this to everyone on your list. Send them a personal email. However, an actual old school-style letter is the best and most effective way to contact them.

And notice that I'm not asking them if they're going to like it or not. I'm already assuming that they will. Of course they're going to get relief. I mean, duh, that's a given! (that's another little clever trick. Or so I've heard)

You'd be amazed at what kind of reponse you'll get... er, I mean, so I've heard. Not that I've ever used this ninja tactic myself (wink-wink). So this is how you can book your new massage sessions before you ever advertise. Not that I've done it. I'm just sayin'.

Let me know how you do with this method.

And please don't tell my wife I didn't do much today.

JeffUnknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-13029921384816451312010-03-11T11:15:00.006-05:002010-03-11T15:38:08.732-05:00How To Get 10 New Clients Every Week For Your Massage Therapy Business With Little Or No Cost
Hello again! Today's your lucky day, my friend. Why? Because I'm going to show you how to get an average of 10 new clients every week for the rest of your career. Yippee! And the best part is that this can be done with little or no cost. Seriously! Sound cool? It's a little long, so bear with me for a minute. You'll see why at the end. I have to write this quick while the baby's asleep.

Let's get started...

1. Start A Referral Program. This is sooo easy to do. Many massage therapists are under the false belief that their clients will automatically refer others to them. Not so! You need to let them know that you're looking for referrals and also reward them for doing so. Don't sit around and wait for them to do it on their own. Get the ball rolling yourself. You'd be surprised at how many you get just by asking them.

2. Use Direct Mail. I absolutely LOVE using direct mail for many reasons. It's still the most affordable and trackable form of marketing there is. Not only that, but you can easily get people's attention better than ever because so many businesses are trying to do everything electronically these days. Too much so, in fact. They don't understand that people still enjoy receiving direct mail and still respond to it very well. Let their ignorance be your gain! You can do a postcard mailing to local residents directing them to your web site for a free ebook, massage sample, discount off their first session, etc.

3. Get Local Businesses To Endorse You. Not only is this one of the most powerful methods there is, but it's free! Become friendly with as many local businesses as you can and have them hand out either an endorsement letter or gift certificate for a massage sample to their clients. The best part is that you're getting endorsed from a business that this group of people already know and trust. It costs nothing to do, and you don't have to do ANY of the work!

4. Use Twitter. This is another powerful method that's free and takes only minutes to do. Let's assume you live in Jacksonville, FL. After you set up a Twitter account, go to http://www.search.twitter.com/ then type the words live in Jacksonville FL. It brings up any twitter posts from people who live in Jacksonville, FL from the past 90 days. Now you simply start following those people. You then send them a direct message that can say something like, "I live in Jacksonville, too. Looking forward to your tweets." You then start building a relationship with these people and eventually lead them to your web site, practice, etc.

5. Contact Past Clients. This is the easiest group of all to contact. Many massage therapists simply don't contact their past clients with a "Welcome Back" letter/offer. You'd be amazed at how many past clients really wanted to make another appointment with you, but just didn't get around to it yet. A gentle nudge is all many of them need.

6. Implement Third Party Gift Certificates. This is another powerful method that brought me TONS of clients. Here's what you do: Ask your clients, family, and friends if they'd mind handing out a two gift certificates for a free 15-minute massage sample to two people they know who might be interested in a massage. Here's the trick to it - put that person's name in the "from" section of the GC. That way, they look good. It appears as if they bought the GC. They're more apt to handing them out when they look good in the process.

7. Start A Web Site. Many therapists still don't have a web site yet. A lot of them feel intimidated by the thought of setting one up or think it's too expensive. You can set one up without having to pay a web designer. You can use WordPress, MySpace, Facebook, or Blogger to get yourself up and out there for people to find you.

8. Get On Facebook. As of this writing, I believe this is the most powerful online way to get your name out there in a fun, social way. If you're not set up on Facebook yet and aren't sure what to do, click here to see how easy it really is.

9. Set Up Boxes To Win A Free Massage. This is a technique I teach in my upcoming new course. Place drawing boxes inside of waiting areas of local businesses for people to enter their contact information to win a free hour-long massage. This is an unbelievably easy way to capture the contact information of red hot prospects without you having to do a thing! Collect all of the entries about once a month or so. Pick a winner, obviously, but then put all the other entries into your database to start building a relationship with. This method is easy, free, and non-stop.

10. Distribute Lead Generation Flyers. This is another extremely inexpensive way to get your name out there. Design flyers that direct people to either your practice, web site, or a voicemail number for them to receive a free report. You can use a headline such as, "FREE Guide Shows You How To End All Neck & Shoulder Pain In Only 30 Minutes Or Less". You can walk around the neighborhood yourself or - even better - contact your local youth employment service to have teenagers do this for you. They should also be placed on local community bulletin boards in grocery stores, libraries, etc.

Here's where using these methods bring you an average of 10 clients a week:

Let's say that each one of these methods only brought you just one client. Think of it. Your client referral program generated only one client. A local business endorsing you to their customers only brought you one new client. Only one past client came back. You got just one appointment from someone who entered their name to win a free massage. You get the idea.

Put them together and you got 10 new clients! Even if you didn't implement them all, you're still doing way better than 99.9% of all the other massage therapists in your area.

Let's say you implemented only 5 of these methods, but got 3 new clients from each one. That's 15 new clients! And if you did this on a regular basis, you're schedule is going to be full real quick. And most of these techniques are free or almost free.

See how easy it is? Not only that, but most of the work is front-loaded, meaning once you set it up it does the work for you from now on.

The more marketing techniques you have working for you, the better your results will be - especially if you're new to marketing and don't have everything fine-tuned just yet. This also keeps you recession-proof at minimal cost.

Take care!

I should've sent this post out a week or two ago. Our baby is taking up all my attention (although he's worth it).

Anyway, I want to give you a tip on how to sell massage gift certificates at the last minute.

If you've bought my course or read my blogs, you probably know what I'm about to say...

Mail Them To Your Clients!!!

Don't wait for clients to see a counter display. Don't even mail them letting them know that gift certificates are available. Actually mail your clients 2-4 gift certificates.

Here's the spin you should put on it...

Don't go on and on about how massage makes a great gift. That's the big mistake that almost every massage therapist does. Give the buyer as many benefits as you can for them that makes their life somehow easier. For example:

1. They don't have to drive to a crowded mall after work, stand in long lines, having to park a mail away in the cold, etc.

2. They don't have to worry about online shopping problems such as late delivery, ID theft, out of stock, etc.

3. The gifts are already in their hands!

Put a code on each GC so you know which ones get redeemed and which ones didn't. The gift certificates aren't good until they're redeemed. All the clients have to do is either mail or call you with their credit card info to redeem any or all of them. I did this every year with great success.

So if you haven't done it yet, I'd do it today and put the last minute spin to it. I'd also throw in a perk for them. Buy one get the next one half-off, buy 3 get the 4th one free, a free 15-minute massage for them if they buy more than one - anything you can think of.

And the BEST part is that a certain percentage of them will never get redeemed! That's more money in your pocket.

Sorry this post is short. Gotta tend to a crying baby.

Take care!

Jeff
ultimatemassagesuccess@gmail.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-66555424270261949522009-10-09T16:21:00.004-04:002009-10-16T23:37:33.299-04:00This Reality TV Show Attracts Massage Clients... Seriously! There's a new guilty pleasure I found not long ago while I was home one Saturday afternoon. I'm flipping channels as I'm dozing off on the couch and I run across this reality show on the Bravo Channel that I got addicted to like crack. Not only that, but it brought back memories from when I used to work for others (shudder!)

Have you ever checked out that show Salon Takeover? It's a riot! If you never saw it, this woman Tabatha Coffey goes into hair salons and day spas and literally takes the keys from the owners and opens a can of whoop ass on everyone. But there's a lesson in this guilty pleasure...

It reveals just how bad these owners are at marketing their business. And these aren't rinky-dink hole-in-the-wall places. These are nice establishments. But holy jumping catfish are they horrible at promoting themselves. I mean, nobody is perfect. I'm not. But I remember putting my career into the hands of people who couldn't attract flies with a tub full of honey.

But there's also a huge opportunity for massage therapists. I've also learned that if you just show these owners exactly how you'll convert their existing clients into massage clients and not rely on them to give you work, they'll literally hand you their clients. I've had many, many salon owners and chiropractors tell me the same thing. It's just that they keep getting resumes from therapists which basically say, "give me work".

This is what my new course specializes in, which I'm finishing up now (when the baby lets me).

Anyway, I'd LOVE to hear your opinion of the show if you've seen it. Check it out by clicking here. We should start a forum on this show. Email me your thoughts on it at ultimatemassagesuccess@gmail.com.

So if you're currently working for someone else and are feeling kind of stuck, this show will open your eyes. And if you'd like a copy of my new free pdf report called, "10 Reasons Why You Should Absolutely NOT Be A Massage Employee (the ugly truth of what it's like working in the industry that the massage schools, organizations and magazines don't tell you)", just email me and ask me to send it to you. I'm sending it out next week.

And let me know what you think of this show if you've seen it. There's a lot to be learned about what NOT to do in your marketing.

Oh - and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts on what to do with a cranky baby! I really appreciate all the advice. He's doing much better now. He actually slept through the night last night.

And next week I'm going to post my first video and it's going to co-star the little tyke. It'll be entertaining, if nothing else.

Take care!

Jeff
ultimatemassagesuccess@gmail.com
http://www.twitter.com/massage_successUnknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-41056962127263097822009-08-28T12:38:00.013-04:002009-10-16T23:39:36.335-04:00How To Get Massage Clients With Twitter

Hi everyone! I'm writing this with an 8 pound farting machine on one arm and typing with the other. This is my first blog post since my son Jonathan FINALLY came home from the hospital last week after a 3 month stay. I've gotten a total of 11 minutes sleep - and not in a row! I mean, take a look at this picture. It says a thousand words, doesn't it? You know, I didn't think you could hallucinate without drugs, but I'm quickly finding out that you can!

And if anyone has any advice for how to deal with colic or severely gassy infants, please leave a comment! It would be greatly appreaciated. My wife and I are running out of ideas to help the little guy.

Since I'm up all night anyway lately, I've been on my BlackBerry (since I can't always make it to the computer when I'm in the middle of feeding this methane cloud I call my son) and I found out some really cool ways you can attract massage clients using Twitter. At first, I wasn't sure how this could be done with a local business like massage therapy, but I learned some really neat tricks that you can do with minutes of reading this to get prospects.

(By the way - you can follow me on Twitter by clicking here. I'll also follow you back)

Anyway, here's what you can do:

Let's say that you live in Toledo OH. Go to http://www.search.twitter.com/. Then type the words live in Toledo. It then pulls up any Twitter posts in the last 90 days from people who say they live in Toledo. Then you simply follow those people.

You can send them a message that says something like, "I notice that you also live in Toledo as well as me. Looking forward to your tweets." It doesn't have to be those exact words, but a personal message goes a long way when it comes to getting people to follow you back.

I just tried this for Toledo and a boat load of people came up. In fact, some of them were tweeting each other saying things like, "You live in Toledo? Me too. What part of town do you live in?" Try it!

This can also be done with Facebook. Just search for others in your area and send them a message that says you also live in (your town) and you'd like to add them as a friend. I've heard some very successful stories of people who built a large list of Facebook friends and/or Twitter followers and had clients/customers already waiting when the business was finally opened. Why? Because these new friends/followers already feel like they know this new business owner a little bit. A connection has already been made.

Another way to gain more friends/followers is by offering them a small gift. For example, for everyone who follows you, they can get a free PDF on how to relieve back pain in minutes. This can be done by emailing it to them or directing to your blog or web site to retrieve it. Easy, isn't it?

The master on how to effectively use Twitter is a guy named Perry Belcher. Check out his blog. It's fantastic! His knowledge on Twitter and YouTube is astounding.

Well, I'm going to cry myself to sleep now.

Take care!

Jeff

ultimatemassagesuccess@gmail.com

http://www.twitter.com/massage_success
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-29336328411764100712009-06-22T09:52:00.007-04:002009-06-22T11:37:58.158-04:00Best Web Site Template For Your Massage BusinessHi everyone! It's been a while since I added anything to my blog. My wife and I recently had our world turned upside down - but in a good way.

Here's what's been going on. My wife's due date for our first child was July 30. The week before Memorial Day weekend, she wasn't feeling so good. She made a doctor's appointment and they admitted her to the hospital. To make a long story short, they had to deliver that weekend!

So on May 24, our son Jonathan was born at 2pds 11oz. He's still in the NICU, but he's doing great. He should be home in 3-4 weeks. Needless to say, it's been friggin' NUTS around here. It also put my new course on hold because my wife proof reads and formats my stuff. The only thing she's doing right now is pumping breast milk and sleeping. But things are starting to get back to normal.

Anyway, let's get back to the perfect template for your web site. Before I reveal it, I'd like to take a second to quickly explain why most massage therapists' clients really don't check out their web site more than once. I get a TON of emails about this. "Nobody seems to care about my web site. Why is that?"

After visiting many therapists' web sites, the problem is obvious - probably 99% of these sites (if not 100%) look nothing more than an online brochure. And if you have my first course, you know exactly why brochures are your biggest waste of money and effort and what you should be donig to easily attract clients and prospects instead.

That being said, you should have a web site. However, even if someone discovers you through a Google search, if your web site is basically an online brochure then they have no real reason to choose your massage practice over any other massage practice in your area. Think of what you do when you do a Google search. If a web site doesn't catch your eye right away or is too difficult to navigate around, you simply click to another web site, right? I mean, why waste your time when there are plenty of other sites to click to.

A fantastic web site that you can model yours after is Rachael Ray. Nevermind if you are into her or not. Go to her web site and the web site for the Rachael Ray Show. Both are great models. Let's examine them a little more closely and then let's seee how you can use her format for your massage business.

At the very top, she has a navigation bar for things like food, travel, kids, pets, blog, shopping, etc. That alone gives people reasons for exploring her site further. Also, there's an attractive picture of her in the top left corner. I'm still shocked at how many massage therapists absolutely refuse to put a nice headshot of themselves in their marketing material. (It's strange. They have no issue whatsoever with meeting someone for the first time, having a minute or two of small talk, then rubbing their bodies with oil for an hour - but they're freaked out about picture of themselves. I still can't figure that logic out)

Next, there's a video clip. This is extremely important and is something that every single massage therapist should have on their web site! What could your video be? It could be a short clip of you introducing yourself and briefly describing your practice. It could also give people a reason to make an appointment with you such as a free gift or premium of some kind. The video can also be a 1 minute clip of you working on someone so people can see for themselves what it will be like getting a massage from you as well as what your environment looks like. This will help them know what to expect ahead of time and will put them at ease. Wouldn't you want to see that before you got a massage somewhere for the first time? Wouldn't that make you a little more comfortable, especially if you've never had a massage in your life?

She also posts people's blog entries along with their pictures. There's a headline in her blog that says, "See What Rachael And Her Friends Are Talking About". This makes it interactive with her fans. People LOVE being recognized! I can't stress this enough. This creates an instant bond with people and it costs nothing to do. Also notice how she refers to them as friends. Very smart!

She also has an archive for her articles. Again, it gives people even more reasons to stay on her site. You can easily do the same thing with massage articles. Plus, she has a ton of recipes. The only thing that's missing that I can notice is a way to capture people's emails. But she's so popular right now, I guess it doesn't matter. She already has millions of die hard fans. But YOU should! And if you do have an auto-responder, you must give people a reason to give you their information. In mine, as you all know, I have a 6-lesson course plus a free ebook. It's not enough to just ask for their contact information. The more benefits there are for them, the more will respond accordingly.

You can also use your web site for podcasts, contests, selling gift certificates, links to other web sites, discounts - you can let your imagination go wild.

So if your web site is basically a grocery list of massage modalities, your address, and all of the therapies that you've learned (which they no idea what they are, anyway), then it needs some upgrading.

Hope this helps. I promise that I'm going to be releasing more content soon such as videos and podcasts.

**And for everyone on my mailing list, keep your eye out for a CD you'll receive in the mail about my new Hybrid Massage Practice course. If you're not on my mailing list, email me your mailing address and I'll ship it to you. It hasn't been recorded yet, but it will be soon.**

Take care!
info@ultimatemassagesuccess.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-35462769947975757422009-04-20T12:13:00.004-04:002009-04-20T13:43:21.232-04:003 Great Spring Niche Markets That You Can Corner In DaysHey everyone! Spring is officially here, and that means MORE opportunities for your massage therapy business. With just a little thought, you can easily attract more massage clients than your competition even in this recession. Seriously. It's not hard to do. In fact, I'll give you 3 fantastic markets to hit right now that I'll bet anything your competition isn't even thinking of.

1. Accountants. This is a severely overlooked market. Why? Think about it. First, accountants are overworked this time of year. They're stressed out, hunched over a desk, and trying to cram their clients' last minute tax demands by April 15th. This is a PERFECT market to contact right now! You can help relieve their migraine headaches, neck & shoulder tension, and repetitive stress issues with their arms and hands.

Second, this market has money to spend. CPA's do well - especially at this time of year. And the best part is that NO OTHER massage therapist is targeting them and their problems. You can corner this market within days! Believe me, they'll be practially begging for your services once you let them know about you.

2. Spring Time Gardeners. Unless you live in an apartment complex, everyone has some sort of spring time projects that they have to do, whether they enjoy doing them or not. Things like mowing the lawn, weeding, spreading mulch - all of these activities require using muscles that involve bending over, pushing, reaching, and straining. I've heard from a TON of clients just last week how much their arms, knees, and legs are aching from spring time upkeep. Mine are, too. I mowed my lawn for the first time last week as well as planted grass seed and I'm a little stiff myself.

3. Sinus Problems. Many massage therapists overlook this market because it doesn't directly involve muscles. This is a HUGE mistake and the wrong way to think. As we all know, Spring causes major allergy problems with a lot of people. If you know reflexology, pressure point massage, as well as how to gently separate the cranial bones - you'll get a flood of clients! Sooo many people are sneezing and wheezing this time of year. If you can show these people how massage therapy can give them some much needed sinus relief, you'll strike gold.

See how easy it is? And the best part is that NO OTHER massage therapist in your area is targeting these niche markets. Don't believe me? Search for yourself. You'll see. You can have all three of these markets cornered within days.

Hope these ideas help. In my next blog post, I'm going to show you the BEST template you can use for your web site.

Take care!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-20168314096449964202009-03-29T18:51:00.004-04:002009-03-29T20:03:46.407-04:002 Cool New Massage Package Ideas (I Guarantee Your Competition Isn't Offering These!)Let me ask you a question - are you stumped about what new massage services to offer your clients? I mean, you already offer Swedish, reflexology, aromatherapy, hot stone massage, deep tissue, etc. "What else can I offer? Hmmm."

Here are two really cool ideas that I got simpy by listening to a few of my own clients just recently. (If you already follow my blogs and/or own my now sold out massage marketing course - you already know how I can't stress enough about why you should listen to what your clients are saying to you in order to get fresh ideas about exactly what types of massage sessions you should be offering that they'll LOVE you for)

First, I heard a client the other day complaing about how she always has cold feet (she's not the first client who ever complained about this, but for some reason the bell didn't go off in my head until she mentioned it). So I thought to myself, "Now, what could I do to help relieve cold feet? Many clients say they have cold feet and/or hands. I bet if I could think of a massage session that focuses on that problem, I'll be a very happy massage therapist."

What kind of massage modalities could you use to help ease cold feet? Let's think about this for a moment. How about relexology, wrapping their feet in a hot towel with some peppermint aromatherapy oil, tiger balm, and hot toe stones. Those modalities alone would be a great massage package for relieving cold feet.

You could do the same thing with cold hands. You can use paraffin dip (if available), rest a medium sized hot stone on their palms, hand reflexology, tiger balm, warmed moist towel - you see where I'm going?

This would be great to offer in the winter or if it's still cold where you live.

The other massage package idea is to help relieve sinus congestion. This is a huge problem with people in the Springtime. You could work on the sinus points on the face along with the reflexology points that correspond to those areas in the feet and hands. You could also include eucalyptus oil (which is great for people with asthma problems), tapotement techniques on their back to help break up mucus, craniosacral techniques that give space between the cranial bones. Also, if you've ever taken Paul St. John's NMT5 seminar, there are outstanding techniques for relieving sinus pressure inside the nasal cavity.

If you're an experienced massage therapist, think about this - have you ever heard any of your clients mention to you about how their hands and/or feet are always cold? Or has anyone ever complained to you about nagging sinus problems? Of course you have. That's why I always say...

Listen To Your Clients!!!

By the way, if you're on Twitter, follow me at http://www.twitter.com/ultmassagebiz. I signed up only last week and I already have about 80 followers without even trying! So if you're not using Twitter yet, you might want to jump on the bandwagon. Hopefully I'll have more Twitter tips for you soon.

Oh - and one other thing to mention on a personal note. Our new baby is going to be a boy! We're getting another ultrasound tomorrow morning. Everytime he kicks, Cheryl yells - "Get in here! He's kicking!" Of course by the time I get there, the little s**t stops!

See you next time! Go Villanova!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-26957774146675338292009-03-17T11:22:00.012-04:002009-03-29T16:36:10.873-04:00How To Get A-List Celebrities To Promote YOUR Massage Practice!Wouldn't it be great if you could get some of the top A-list Hollywood actors to promote YOUR massage practice for free - and without having to pay them? Just imagine what it would be like if some of this year's recent Oscar winners like Sean Penn, Penelope Cruz and Kate Winslet were able to promote your massage practice. Do you think that would get a prospect's attention? You bet! I'm going to show you a very clever way to do this along with a simple 3-part formula headline.

So let's start. Everyone knows that many celebrities get regular massages. Sometimes you even read stories in the various massage magazines about therapists who were lucky enough to get hooked up with a celebrity and get on their payroll. I used to know one myself. Pretty cool, right? I mean, who wouldn't want to land that gig! I'm assuming that - like me - you're not on a celebrity's payroll. But - you can still get an endorsement from them if you put just a little thought into it.

Here's how you do it:

First, google the names of certain celebrities along with some common massage therapy keywords. See which celebrities get regular massages. Of course they won't be getting one from you in particular, but that doesn't matter. Just do a few minutes of research to see which celebrities get stress relief from regular massage therapy. Let's say that you found 3 celebrities that see a massage therapist regularly to help reduce their headaches.

Once you have a few written down, you can use their names in a formula headline that gives your practice an off-hand endorsement. The headline could look like this:

"How These Oscar Winners Use Massage Therapy To Rid Themselves Of Chronic Migraine Headaches...And You Can Too!"

See how that works? I should've put this entry up last Saturday. Sorry, it's my fault. I was too busy doing other things. I just thought of this story this morning and although it's too late to implement this Valentine's Day idea now, it's still a model to study from for the future.

Anyway...

Since my mind is so focused on finishing up my new client attraction course, I admittedly haven't been giving enough attention to my massage business lately. Last week the doctor that I do some subcontracting for said, "Jeff, can you put together a Valentine's Day flyer for gift certificates to display on our counter? I don't want to do a mailing this time, just a flyer for clients to see."

No problem. So I came in last Thursday afternoon with a very simple flyer to display. This flyer was up for only about 3 hours before the office closed for the night. The doctor doesn't work on Fridays anymore and I blocked myself off so that I can stay home and finish my course.

I was there again 9:30 am on Saturday. When I walked in, she said, "Hey Jeff. The flyer is working out great!"

"Yeah?" I said. "How many gift certificates did we sell?"

"So far, 7."

7 Gift certificate sales in just 3 hours without doing a mailing, without sending an email blast, without even telling our clients about it other than them seeing the display! What did this cost? Not a single penny!

Now keep this in mind - many years ago before I learned this cool marketing stuff, she had a display board in our waiting room that said, "Massage Gift Certificates Sold Here". It was never changed. Guess how many we used to sell during the year? A small handful at best, and most of those were sold during the holiday season.

Wanna know what I wrote? Here it is...

“How To Get TONS More Affection From Your Loved One

This Valentine’s Day”

Are you busy? Pre-occupied with work? Too exhausted to even think about romance this Valentine’s Day? Maybe you’re tired of the typical ‘dinner and flowers’ idea year in, year out. If that’s the case…

We Have The Perfect Solution For You!

How about giving your loved one a relaxing, stress-relieving half-hour neck, back and shoulder massage this Valentine’s Day? Give your sweetheart something that he or she will appreciate more than the same old ‘card, flowers and chocolate’ scenario every year. And who wouldn’t love a relaxing half-hour massage?

Here’s How You Benefit!

· Not Having To Spend Extra Time That You Don’t Have Shopping
· No More Stressing About What Gift Your Loved One Will Want

Your special Valentine will receive a half-hour stress-reducing neck, back and shoulder massage on a warmed table without any interruptions. Not only that, but this special offer is yours for only$30! But you got to hurry – this offer expires 2/14/09.

To purchase your special Valentine’s Day gift certificate, please ask Sharon or June for your half-hour Valentine’s Day gift certificate for only $30.

Give Your Loved One Something They’ll Really Enjoy!

Take Advantage Of This Special Offer Today!

If you notice, I didn't even give it a name (shame on me. Name your massage packages!) Not only that, but the bottom of the flyer had a sample gift certificate attached, so only 3/4 of the flyer had body copy on it. I forgot to ask during the week how many more we sold. I'll find out later today. But can you see how just rewording a flyer so that it's benefit driven can make all the difference in the world? Can you see how it doesn't have to be perfect and you can still get great results? The funny thing is that I used this same flyer a year ago and got the same killer results! No need to reinvent the wheel.

I get too many emails from therapists who stress over making their sales letter/postcard/flyer/etc. perfect. Then they end up getting nothing done. Don't fall into the trap of 'paralysis of analysis', just get something out there!

Copy this example to use in the future. Also, don't restrict yourself to using it only on Valentine's Day. Simply tweak it to fit almost any special day.

In my next blog entry, I'm going to reveal how to get major celebrities to promote YOUR massage practice for nothing and the headline that is guaranteed to grab people's attention! Wait till you read it. If you've been feeling down about the recession and uninspired about marketing your practice, this will give you a jolt.

Take care!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-12623482990732208772009-02-11T08:58:00.003-05:002009-02-11T09:56:47.668-05:00How To Decrease Postage Money Despite Upcoming SpikeHave you heard the news this morning? The cost of a 1st class postage stamp is going up 2 cents this May. Do me a favor, though - please don't jump off a bridge. Even worse than that - please, please, please do NOT stop using direct mail!!!

I know what you are probably thinking, "That's it! I don't care what Jeff says. The cost is now way too high for me. From now on, I will be contacting my database electronically or at best with a postcard. That's it. I'm through with 1st class mail - especially in this recession. Goodnight Irene!"

Before you come to that conclussion, let me put you at ease and show you how to actually decrease your postage costs and still effectively communicate with your clients.

1) Purchase Forever Stamps. If you have any extra money at all right now (and I know it's tough), buy a couple of rolls of Forever Stamps. 2 rolls would cost $84. That's 200 mailings!
And think of it this way - most massage therapists don't have a large database to begin with. Unfortunately, many have no database at all - just a collection of some names and phone numbers. So it's not like I'm suggesting that you purchase a mailing list of 3,000 names from a mailing list company and send them all a letter, which would cost you $1,320 after the upcoming increase. No. If you're like most therapists, you probably have a few dozen names and addresses. That's not much.

Plus, think about all of the other ways that you may be spending money to promote your practice with little or no results. I'm continually amazed at the amount of emails I still receive from therapists who refuse to spend $42 on a roll of stamps, but have no problem at all spending hundreds of dollars on advertising that never pays off. (I'm still trying to figure that logic out. They still don't understand why that approach doesn't work in most cases, but that's a topic for another blog posting)

2) Don't Contact Your Database With 1st Class Mail Only. Even though I'm still a huge fan of direct mail, you should be contacting your clients using a number of different ways. For example, let's say that this month you mail a letter with a stamp. Next month, you could contact them via email. The next month you could send them a postcard, which is cheaper than a 1st class stamp. The following month you could send them your newsletter via email (if they prefer it that way). That way, you can contact them 4 different ways in 4 months and it will only cost you 73 cents per person after the increase takes effect. That's not a hard pill to swallow, is it? Not only that, but you'll be keeping your marketing fresh because they're not receiving your message in the same format every single time.

3) Everything Else Is Increasing As Well. Remember, the cost of everything is going up these days - even traditional newspaper advertising. So, yes, postage will be increasing shortly, but the post office isn't alone. I've heard talk on one of the news channels just the other day about how the cost of all newspapers is probably going to increase soon. That means that advertising costs will go up along with it.

COMING SOON: "How Any Massage Therapist Can Have A Full Schedule Of Clients Waiting For Them Without Doing Any Advertising Whatsoever, No Web Site, And Without Any Awkward Selling By Having A Hybrid Massage Practice"

Sound too good to be true? It's not! I've just finished my newest, funnest, and easiest to implement marketing kit that teaches you how to have a Hybrid Massage Practice. I've designed it to answer this ONE simple question:

“How Can I Effortlessly Attract New Clients On A Consistent Basis Using Marketing Methods That Are Not Only Comfortable And Fun For Both Myself And My Prospects, But Are Done In Such A Cool Way That They Become Repeat Clients Which Are Happy And Eager To Tell Others About My Massage Practice Without Any Convincing From Me?”

Pretty powerful question, huh? Well my good friends, I've spent the last year listening to your wants and needs concerning your massage goals and I've created a system that easily answers that question. It is the most fool-proof system to quickly build your own massage therapy practice, especially if:

1. You’re just out of massage school and are not sure how to either find work or generate clients on your own
2. You’ve been a licensed massage therapist for some time, but either aren’t working or are at best underemployed
3. You are employed, but not happy with your current work situation
4. You opened your own establishment, but are having an extremely difficult time paying your overhead plus your own personal living expenses and are on the brink of closing down
5. You would like to be your own boss, but can’t afford to rent space, have no clue how to attract clients, and definitely do not want to be an employee

My lovely wife Cheryl is editing it right now. It should hopefully be released sometime in March or April. And remember - only those therapists who entered their mailing address (not just an email address) will be the first to receive it at a discounted price before my new web site is launched. So if you haven't done so already, please go to UltimateMassageSuccess.com to be on my mailing list and be contacted first.

See you next time!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-86234149137038696872009-01-05T12:01:00.020-05:002009-01-05T12:50:53.333-05:00Off-Beat New Year's Massage Promotion IdeaHi everyone! Here's a cool New Year's massage promotion idea that you can use immediately that will separate you from your competition. Almost every massage therapist uses a discount of some kind, right? How about tying your discount into the new year! What do I mean by that?

Since it's now 2009, you can offer $20.09 off massages during the month of January. Or you could offer 20.09% off their next appointment. You'd be amazed at how people will be attracted to this idea simply because it's clever and no one else is offering a promotion like this.
You could be offering this same type of promotion for years to come. The fact that you're offering a discount that has an off-beat number like $20.09 will without question get people's attention.

This type of number is way more effective that offering the typical '$10 off 'discount that every massage therapist and day spa offers. And it's a very creative way to tie in a discount to the new year. See how easy that was?

Can you name another massage therapist or day spa that has a creative new year's offer like that? I can't think of one.

Ok. Here's the news most of you have been waiting for. The launch of my new Ultimate Massage Success Instant Client Attraction Guide should be released around March 1st. This is the the ONLY client-attracting course that shows you how to have a built-in database even if you:

1) Know absolutely nothing about marketing
2) Are a recent massage graduate
3) Have your massage certification, but no room to work out of
4) Are frustrated by the lack of clients your current employer is giving you
5) Have no web site (don't worry - you won't even need one!)

This guide shows you step-by-step how to have instant clients and easily become more successful than even the experienced massage therapists that are in your area within a month. No more sending out your cover letters and/or resumes with no success. No more relying on others to give you an income. No more banging your head against the wall wondering how the hell you're going to attract clients and gain referrals. You'll literally have day spas and doctors asking you to work with them.

Only therapists who have submitted their mailing address will be given first notification and a very special discount before this information is going to be released to the massage community. So if you aren't on my mailing list already, go to Ultimate Massage Success to be able to get this limited edition guide early.

Take care!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-48107347205847500982008-12-04T11:14:00.005-05:002009-01-05T12:00:57.933-05:003 Easy And Inexpensive Ways To Recession-Proof Your Massage PracticeI'm not going to beat around the bush - it's scary right now! Every day when I tune into CNN to keep up with what's happening in the economy, it gets more and more depressing. Heck, I've even noticed a slow down in my own massage practice. But now is not the time to cry, 'Whoa is me'. You MUST double or even triple your marketing efforts if you want to survive until the recession bottoms out.

If you're still in massage school and you're wondering how to start a massage therapy business, the current recession can actually be a good thing in the long run. Most timid massage therapists will simply give up. That's good for you! That weeds out the competition. Only the strong will survive. That is - if you hang in there until the market turns around (and, don't worry, it will).

So here are three easy things that you can do right now to stimulate your massage practice:

1. Send out a killer sales letter to your current customer base with a fantastic offer. In this case, you absolutely SHOULD be promoting gift certificates. The spin that I like to use is how they can totally avoid going out in the cold, driving through traffic, and fighting the mall crowds by mailing my gift certificates right to them! All they have to do is mail in a check for how many they want to buy. It's even faster than on-line shopping.

2. Set up an endorsed mailing campaign with local businesses who cater to the same clients that you do. What you do is you approach businesses like hair salons, nail salons, gyms, tanning salons, etc., and work out a deal where they mail to their customers on your behalf and you mail to your clients on their behalf. It's free plus you're getting a personal endorsment from a business that these people already know and trust.

3. Contact inactive clients. This is a goldmine that's right under your nose! Send a reactivation letter with a special offer. You'd be amazed at how many of these people really wanted to make another appointment with you, but simpy haven't gotten around to it yet and they'll be glad to hear from you.

The cost of these techniques? Just a handful of postage stamps.

Oh, and about the personal news I have - I'm going to be a daddy for the first time! My wife and I just found out last week. (Now I'll be popping Xanax like tic tacs!)

Take care feel free to leave a comment or email me with any marketing questions you have at info@ultimatemassagesuccess.com.

JeffUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-43469896438428480422008-10-18T16:10:00.003-04:002008-10-18T18:31:01.877-04:00Cool Halloween Massage Promotion IdeaHi everyone! If you're interested in A) a fun and easy Halloween massage promotion idea and B) want to know how to start a massage therapy business without having to learn all that boring marketing stuff that, honestly, you probably don't enjoy doing anyway, then this blog entry is going to take a ton of weight off your shoulders. (I mean, you just want to do massage and not become a copywriter, am I right?) Well...

You've Come To The Right Massage Blog! For the second part of this blog entry, I'm going to let you in on a HUGE discovery that I've learned recently that is going to going to give you a big sigh of relief - and, no, it has nothing to do with a new formula headline I've learned, or how to write better body copy, asking you to buy something, or anything like that. This revelation is a little different and I'll bet that you're going to be glad you read it. In fact, I know you will (you'll see what I mean when you get to it).

First, let's start with the incredibly easy and fun Halloween promotion idea that will generate clients for you this week. Halloween is right around the corner. Let's think about who'll need a massage more than anyone on November 1st - how about the parents of small kids! Why? Because many of them will be walking around with their kids (who have much more energy than their parents do). Their feet will be sore from all of that walking, their lower backs might be stiff, and their shoulders will probably be stiff from constantly picking up and putting down any toddlers they may have during the night. Let's see here - Sore feet. Stiff lower backs. Tight shoulders. Hmmm. Does this give you any ideas as to which parts of the body you could focus on?

Now, how do you promote this Halloween massage idea? Unfortunately there's not enough space here for a complete sales letter example, but a headline that you could use is,

"How Would You Like A Treat (instead of a trick) For Your Back This Halloween?"

Next to that, you can attach a physical object to the corner (you know how much I love doing that). What could it be? How about a bite sized Tootsie Roll! That will definitely grab their attention and it goes along with the Halloween theme. You can also have a subhead that can say something like, "Here's Your First Piece Of Halloween Candy Compliments of (your massage practice) For Being Such A Non Scary Client". (The words 'non scary' can be written in a Halloween font that Microsoft Word has in their selection)

You can now write to all of the parents of small children on your list and describe in detail about their sore feet, stiff lower backs, and tight shoulders from carrying their kids around the night before. Tell them how your new 'Halloween Rescue Massage' is going to take care of all that for them!

You can get even more creative and mail your letter inside of one of those orange plastic Halloween bags that you can usually find in bulk at most dollar stores. That will without question get their attention. Think of it - "A letter sent inside of an orange bag? And there's something lumpy in there? What's in this thing?" That's exactly what people will be thinking. Wouldn't you? You can also add a post-it note on the bag that says in handwritten font, "A Special Treat For You".

And here's a little marketing secret - the general public is miserably BORED with 99.9% of any marketing they receive. I know I am. This will not only make you stand out in their minds, but it'll brighten up their day a little - and who doesn't appreciate that! The total cost of this Halloween massage promotion? A small bag of tootsie rolls, some stamps, paper, and orange plastic Halloween bags. That won't break the bank, would it? And ain't no one in your area doing anything remotely clever like this - I guarantee it.

OK. Now on to my recent revelation and how this is going to benefit your massage practice MASSIVELY! It's been a year now since I released my Ultimate Massage Success Home Study Course and thanks to so many of you - it sold out! I'm in the process of putting together a new improved version of it. But there is one vitally important thing that I've learned throughout this past year that will help your massage practice tremendously.

This most important thing that I've learned is that most massage therapists really don't want to learn how to attract more clients (as much as they claim that they do), they just want the clients.
It's understandable. I'm the same way with many things. (My wife absolutely hates cooking, even though she can follow a recipe if she has to). I hate home improvement projects and have a hard time grasping it, even though I know that they have to be done. We all have our strengths and weaknessess.

Anyway, one of this things that I've heard over and over again this past year from many massage therapists is, "Your course is great, but I still wish the entire process can be done for me 100%. I'm just not as good at writing this stuff as you are, Jeff." You have a point. Heck, I can't add 1 + 1 without usinig a calulator. But the good news is that...

Your King Of Creative Marketing For Independent Massage Therapists Has Listened And Will Soon Rescue You From ALL Your Marketing Troubles!

I'm in the middle of creating a never-been-done-before simple guide that will create massage clients for you in days without:

Learning Boring Marketing Concepts That You Really Don't Want To Do, Anyway (let's be honest)

Having To Think Of What To Do Next Especially If You Don't Believe That You're A Creative Person

Wasting Precious Time Learning Marketing When You Have So Many Other Priorities To Deal With

Having To Read Multiple Manuals When You Just Don't Have The Time

Having To Invest In Some Expensive Software Program And Then Have To Shell Out A Monthly Fee Just To Keep It Going

Having To Know Anything About Computers, Web Sites, Or Even Know The First Thing About The Internet

This will be the most stress-free, no-thinking-required, easy-to-implement-from-day-one instant client-attracting guide that's ever been created. And the best part of all is this guide is going to be super cheap! I know how little money most massage therapists are making. I've been there myself.

It's literally like following a recipe. I wrote much of it when I was on the plane for Las Vegas last week. I thought, "If I were a new student, how would I want it written? I don't have time to learn all this confusing marketing crap. I just need clients NOW!" Well, my loyal minions, it'll be released shortly.

If you're interested in being the first to receive this done-for-you guide, please visit my web site at http://www.UltimateMassageSuccess.com and leave your mailing address. This is an area that I get a surprising number of emails about. Many massage therapists feel awkward about asking a client if they would like to make another appointment. I know the feeling. I used to feel uncomfortable about it, too.

So let's start:

1) Say your client's name a few times during the session. This is a powerful yet overlooked psychological tool that helps to keep clients feel bonded to you. When you actually repeat a person's name a few of times during their session, they instantly feel connected to you.

As Dale Carnegie once said, "Remember That A Person's Name Is To That Person The Sweetest And Most Important Sound In Any Language".

2) Tell them what you can do for them in another session. This works like a charm.

Whenever I work on someone for the first time, I usually say something at the end of the session like: "You know, Mary, now that I have an idea of what's going on with your muscles, I know this great new technique that can really give you some relief to your lower back pain. If you're interested in scheduling another session, we can focus strictly on your lower back next time instead of only five minutes. It's really helped ease a lot of lower back pain for many of my clients and I really think you'll get some much needed relief from it."

You'd be amazed at how many people say, "Yeah, that's a good idea. Let's do that." It also gives them something to look forward to the next time. You're giving them a solid reason as to why they should schedule with you again as opposed to just saying to them, "Thank you and have a nice day" as they walk out the door.

3) Offer a 10% discount on their next session if they schedule it before they leave. This is another clever tactic that helps people to book again if they're on the fence. An easy to say it is like this: "If you're interested in making another appointment, Mary, you'll get 10% off your next session if you book it today before you leave". It's simple and to the point. You can also have this part of your normal policy.

If someone books another appointment before they leave and if they have to call you in a few days to reschedule it, you still honor the 10% discount. However, if they call and cancel without rescheduling while they're on the phone with you, the discount is taken away. It helps give them another reason to actually reschedule as opposed to flat out cancelling.

4) Write them a prescription! This is my newest technique that's working even better than I thought it would. Go to your local printer and have them print up some prescription-sized tear-sheet pads that have your name and contact info at the top, a line for the client's name, and then an empty box that says 'recommendations' inside it. When a client's session is over, simply write their name at the top and whatever recommendations that you suggest inside the box.

For example, you could suggest that they get a massage a week or two, do some basic stretches, use a pain-relieving gel that you like, etc. This works incredibly well because they associate a prescription with something that they should seriously do. If a doctor gives you a prescription, you usually fill it, don't you? Hey, if it came from a doctor, it must be something that I need. Of course, this isn't an actual medication prescription, but it greatly helps influence people to do what you suggest.

When you actually write down that they a massage once a month, do certain streches, drink more water, etc, clients not only remember these recommendations better but they take them much more seriously.

When you combine these four methods, the number of clients who rebook with you go through the roof! And best of all, there's no arm twisting involved and you won't feel awkward about the process.

That's all for now. Oh, I'd love to hear you comments or learn any neat ways that you use to get clients to schedule with you again. Please feel free to post your comments.

Take care!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-66990118163132304882008-08-20T17:50:00.005-04:002008-08-20T19:19:46.814-04:00How To Know A Good Marketing Expert From A Bad OneI often get asked by massage therapists, "Hey Jeff, I noticed that there is a ton of marketing information out there. Which books or courses do you recommend that will help my massage therapy business? How do I know who has good information and who doesn't? I'm new to this stuff and I'm not familiar with these people yet like you are. Who do you recommend?"

These are very good questions. There is a glutton of marketing "experts" out there. Some of them are fantastic, some so-so, and some are all fluff. So how do you know which ones have solid information that's worth your while investing in?

I subscribe to a lot of mailing lists and also purchase many marketing newsletters, books and courses. Here's what I look for when I come across a web site that offers a free information:

1. When I subscribe to a free online mailing list, what do they say in their subject line? What they have in their subject line says a lot about them. Let me give you an example of what I mean. The most critical piece of real estate in any email that's going out to a mailing list is the subject line. Why? Because if the subject line isn't compelling, people will just glance right over it.

Now, a marketing expert that knows what they're doing should know this, right? I mean, it should be common sense to them. But you'd be surprised at how many emails I receive from marketers who have very weak body copy in their subject line. Many times it's nothing more than, "Business Marketing Tip #54". Next month it'll be "Business Marketing Tip #55", and so on.

That's the first red flag for me. I think to myself, "If they don't even know how to get that right, then how good can the rest of their information be?" And sure enough, their information is usually very watered down. It's kind of like a math expert who doesn't know their times tables, you know?

The ones who have compelling headlines in their subject lines usually have good stuff. So that's a little tip to help you out.

2. Here's another indication if someone's information is really worthwhile - do they only try to pitch you something every single time you get an email from them? This really ticks me off. If their emails always try to sell me a product, I just tune it out. However, if they give me solid, useable information without trying to sell me something, then occasionally pitch me a product, I'm much more likely to read what they have to say.

By the way, this is what you should be doing when marketing to your massage clients. You see, whenever contact them - not matter how you contact them - if you're always trying to promote a massage, they'll just tune your message out after a while. But if you give them solid health tips with no pitch, a fun to read newsletter, or anything else that's interesting with no strings attached - you'll end up making more appointments.

Remember this little mantra - "The More You Tell, The More You Sell"

If you notice, I rarely pitch anything in my email broadcasts or blogs. I want to give massage therapists some solid information that they can use right now. As a result, I get a lot of nice comments back whenever I send something out. And many times I get asked, "How can I get more of your stuff?" See, the more you tell, the more you sell!

And this is what you should be looking out for when you get a pitch from marketers to sign up to their mailing lists. After you sign up, notice if A) They have compelling headlines in their subject line and B) Are they always trying to sell you something and not giving you useable information.

After years of study, I have always found material from Dan Kennedy and anyone associated with him to have the best information that really, really does work! (Just in case you're wondering, I get NO residuals from him if you click the above link)

Jeff Sauers
"The King Of Creative Marketing For Independent Massage Therapists"
info@ultimatemassagesuccess.com
http://www.ultimatemassagesuccess.com
http://www.ultimatemassagesuccess.blogspot.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-9566517006546901022008-06-11T11:33:00.004-04:002008-07-03T12:08:03.003-04:00"How To Attract And Keep A Client For Life For Only 69 Cents!"Hi everyone! I'm going to show you how you can contact a client or prospect 3 different ways for your massage therapy business that will not only make you stand out from your competition for only 69 cents, but will also:

A) Stimulate your clients and keep them interested in your message
B) Integrate email and snail mail
C) Keep your costs down

Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy! Ready to hear how to easily do this? Great! I'm gonna fill ya in.

Here's how to easily and simply contact a client or prospect 3 different times in 3 different ways that'll cost you only 69 cents total!

There's a big debate about whether rely on snail mail or electronic mail. Oy vey! I'm going to give you the straight answer to this debate right now - use both!!!

Don't let ANYONE seduce you that everyone uses and responds to electronic mail only - I don't care what statistics are thrown at you.

Not everyone uses and responds to email - just like not everyone responds to snail mail. The best solution is to integrate both. There are pros and cons to both methods. Don't rely 100% on either one. (If you had to rely 100% on either one, I'd still use regular old snail mail without question - even though the price of stamps have recently gone up, but that's a different article altogether).

Now here's how to attract and keep a client for only 69 cents:

1) Send a regular letter. I know what you're thinking, "But Jeff, the cost of postage has just gone up! I can't afford it!" Oh, yeah? You'd be amazed at the amount of massage therapists who email me saying that they're putting an advertisement in their local newspaper that costs them hundreds of dollars without having any clue whether or not this ad will have a strong response rate or not and without first learning how to write an effective lead generation ad. Does that sound smart? I don't think so. However, in their minds, a $42 roll of stamps that will hit 100 carefully selected people is too expensive for them. (Don't even get me started)

Anyway, that one letter will cost you a whopping 42 cents, right? (Gee, I sure hope your bank account can handle it, especially after you just paid for that $5 cup of Starbucks coffee this morning which you could've brewed at home for pennies while you were in the shower).

The great thing about regular mail is that is has to be dealt with - but email can easily be glanced over or automatically go into someone's trash bin without you - or them - even realizing it.

2) Next, mail a postcard. This is great because it will only cost you 27 cents. And if you haven't learned how to write a successful headline or body copy yet, this is an affordable way to contact people without stressing about writing a longer sales letter.

3) Send an email. No, I'm not against using email at all. In fact, I'm all for it! Email is a great way to instantly contact your entire database (that is, if you've been smart enough to collect their emails in the first place - you are doing this, aren't you). There are many benefits to using email. You can contact potentially thousands of people instantly. You can contact them for FREE. And if you screw up your message, who cares? Just send another one out! Plus, there are people who live by their computer, BlackBerry, etc.

Here's where the beauty of this strategy works: You now have all of your bases covered. You see, the public needs to be stimulated in many different ways. That's why you always see products that now have a red cap on their bottle when last month they had the blue cap; this time it's "new & improved"; next month it'll be "extra strength"; the following month the color will be different, etc.

Why do you think this is? This is not by accident. The attention span of the general public is about the same as a gnat. Seriously. (By the way, 95% of ALL products is exactly the same and is made by the same manufacturer. Don't believe me? Do you own research. Hey, I'm in in the marketing business. I study this stuff. That $5.99 bottle of Windex you just bought? You could've picked up a generic brand from your local dollar store that has the exact ingredients. Why? Because it comes from the same manufacturer! I'll let you in on a secret - it's all the same! Yes, even your dish detergent, laundry detergent, toothpaste, deodorant - everything!)

But back to my example. You need to stimulate your clients and prospects in many different ways. If they expect the same thing everytime they receive something from you, it's not going to have the same effect. But if one month they get a sales letter with a lumpy gimmick attached to it, then the next month they get an email from you, then the next month they get a postcard - it's going to keep them stimulated and interested. (you should also be sending them a homemade newsletter, but that's also another article entirely)

This is how this process will only cost you 69 cents. 42 cents for a letter, 27 cents for a postcard and the email is FREE! And if you're not sure if people are going to respond better to snail mail or email, you're covered either way.

AND you've contacted them 3 different times using 3 different mediums!

So to close my long rant, do guerilla marketing. That way, you're not so dependent on one method that may or may not be working for you.

Your marketing king has spoken! Goodbye for now my loyal minions!

Jeff Sauers, "The King Of Creative Marketing For Independent Massage Therapists"

info@ultimatemassagesuccess.com
http://www.ultimatemassagesuccess.com/
http://www.ultimatemassagesuccess.blogspot.com/Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-65265873854638610692008-05-01T12:12:00.002-04:002008-05-01T13:00:41.308-04:00Great New Spring-Time Massage Package Idea! Here's a fantastic massage package that you can use RIGHT NOW that your clients will love you for!

Ok. Now, what is everyone doing at this time of year (including me)? How about gardening, mulching, mowing the lawn, weeding, etc?

And you know what? Everyone's back is hurting because of these spring-time activities (including mine). Holy jumping friggin' catfish are my back, hands and arms aching! My wife Cheryl and I just finished shoveling 7 pickup trucks full of mulch for our yard (It could've easily been 8, but the free mulch that the township puts out has been tapped dry. That's how big our yard is).

Then I noticed something. My clients are complaining about the same exact thing! Within the last four weeks, every other client of mine is saying, "You know, Jeff, I am so stiff from weeding and mulching. Could you work on my low back and arms?"

That's when the light bulb went off. Ding! So I says to myself I says, "Hey, Jeff, why don't you design a massage package that eases the pain of all of the gardening that everyone seems to be doing lately"?

You see, that's why you should always keep your eyes open for new ideas for your massage therapy business. Listen to what your clients are complaining about. It's something that your competition doesn't do (which puts you at an advantage).

Let's take this idea as an example. You can easily design a 'Weeding, Mulching & Mowing' massage package for the spring. You can chart their posture, work on their lower back, shoulders, arms and hands from all of the gardening that every homeowner goes through at this time of year. You don't have to actually create a new massage technique. Just piece together some of the techniques that you already know and market it toward a specific group of people.

This is the perfect time of year to promote this. Oh, mother-of-all-that-is-good-and-holy - is this hitting the jackpot for me at this very moment!!! Boy, is this an easy way if you're looking for how to start a massage business.

All it takes is an open mind.

You know, I'm witnessing some massage marketing "experts" who, in my opinion, are very self-serving by telling you how much money they've invested in their business, how pretty their web site is, what they've done in the past - it's all about me, me, me and not about you, you you!

I'm all about giving you the real-deal information about marketing massage therapy successfully. You wanna know what really works? Continue reading this blog by getting it delivered straight to your computer as soon as my new information is released by subscribing to Google Reader. Simply click on the icon at the top of my blog and you'll get my latest marketing information before everyone else.

Now get out there and start relieving people of their aches and pain from all of the yard work they're doing and prove to yourself that there is money to be made despite the high gas prices!

(By the way, if you're a subscriber to my hard copy newsletter, the entire June issue will be dedicated to how to have a highly successful massage therapy business despite the rapidly increasing gas prices. Email me at info@ultimatemassagesuccess.com and I'll give you the details!)

Take care!

JeffUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-71936288016720327752008-04-18T15:25:00.005-04:002008-04-18T15:59:13.105-04:00Why E-Postcards Don't Work When Marketing Massage Therapy That Practitioners Aren’t Aware Of (This will surprise you!)I want to point out the problems with promoting your massage therapy business using email and massage therapy postcards. Now, I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t use email or e-postcards. As you know, I use email to help keep in touch with my database. There are many massage therapists who signed up for my email broadcasts (thank you!).

Then, what’s the most overlooked problem of using email or e-postcards to send offers to your database? Here is the trend that I’m noticing that almost all therapists aren’t aware of:

You see, the biggest complaint that I hear over and over is, “Well, Jeff, sales letters and postcards aren’t working for me, so I’m just going to send everyone an e-postcard instead. It’s more cost efficient.”

Oh, Lordy! Where do I begin?

First of all, if direct mail doesn’t work, then why do I get such strong response rates every single time that I use it? If the problem was that people don’t pay attention to direct mail, it would fail for me, too, wouldn’t it?

So there goes that theory.

The most overlooked problem is this:

If People Aren’t Responding To Your Direct Mail, It’s Because Of Your MESSAGE – Not Direct Mail Itself!!!

I’d go so far as to say that 99.9% of the time when I receive a marketing piece from one of my members to evaluate, their message is very, very weak.

It’s understandable. There’s a learning curve for everyone. It takes a little bit of time to really ‘get it’. The greatest writers of body copy on the planet say that even their marketing pieces can be improved (including mine).

So I don’t expect you to become Gary Halbert, Ted Nicholas, Dan Kennedy or Bill Glazer overnight. I still carefully examine great works by folks like these. I’m continually improving my stuff.

Anyway, if your message is poor, then why in the world are people going to automatically respond to an e-postcard as opposed to a direct mail piece if the message is the same?

It doesn’t make any sense. In fact, there’s a greater chance that it will be ignored. With direct mail, it has to be handled either to be read or thrown it out, but it can’t be ignored. Emails and e-postcards can get lost in the shuffle within the barrage of emails that everyone gets (among other problems mentioned last month's hard copy newsletter).

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t incorporate them into your marketing, just don’t rely on them 100% . Also…

Don’t assume that everyone reads and responds to email. I'm going to let you in on a secret to the #1 biggest mistake massage therapists make in their massage therapy business when it comes to selling massage gift certificates.

You see, when you're marketing massage therapy - especially your Mother's Day gift certificates - you should be tailoring your marketing material more toward men than women.

Why is this so?

To start with, too many practitioners and day spas have only one message - "Mother's Day Massage Gift Certificates Sold Here!" Their message isn't any different from each other at all. It all looks the same.

Not the way we're going to do it!

First, you're going to be much more successful targeting men than women (even though women have mothers too, of course). But men are more prone to not having a good gift in mind. We're all guilty of that (as I'm sure every woman reading this already knows).

You also have to keep in mind that you have to be able to sell to the potential buyer first before you go on and on about what the massage experience will be like. You MUST think to yourself, "What's in it for them? Why should they buy from me? How can I make their buying process much easier for them?"

In short - really, really think of how you can give solutions to a person (men, especially) in that situation which in this case is figuring out what to buy their mom or wife for Mother's Day.

I suggest that you cater toward men more so than women because women generally have an easier time picking out the right gift for their loved ones. Men on the other hand...uh...well...we need help!

Men also have to buy for their mother, grandmother, wife or girlfriend (if kids are involved) and are secretly filled with anxiety every year whether we show it or not.

Now let's back up and spruce this massage package up a bit.

Instead of calling it a "Mother's Day Massage Gift Certificate", how about naming it something fun that mothers can identify with.

How about "Queen For A Day" massage. Or "Leave Me Alone, It's Mommy's Day" massage.

You can also name it, "Kid Free, Husband Free" massage. "It's All About Mom" is a good one.

You can also offer a 15-minute foot soak, Belgian chocolates and a glass of wine before or after their session.

You see, stressed-out moms can identify with those terms and have fun with them. The more personality I add into my massage packages, the better response I get. People crave something fun and different that they can connect with. I can't stress that fact enough.

You should absolutely be opening up your mind when you're writing your massage business plan.

Your headline and body copy can look something like this:

"How To Get Tons More Affection From Your (mother/wife/girlfriend) This Mother's Day For Only $50!"

Are you busy? Pre-occupied with work? Too exhausted to even think about what to get for Mother's Day? Maybe you're tired of the typical 'dinner and flowers' idea year in, year out.

If that's the case...

We Have A Solution For You!

How about giving your loved one a relaxing, stress-relieving half-hour neck, back and shoulder massage this Mother's Day? Give her something she will appreciate more than the same old, 'Card, flowers and chocolate' scenario every year. And, honestly, who wouldn't love a relaxing half-hour massage to take away their stress?

Here's How You Benefit!

No More Typical Mother's Day Cliched Gifts

Not Having To Spend Extra Time That You Don't Have Shopping

No More Stressing About What Gift Your Loved One Will Actually Enjoy

This unbelievable massage also includes a 15-minute relaxing foot soak prior to the massage. After the session is over, your loved one will be treated to delicious Belgian chocolates and their choice of a red or white wine. If you're like me, you probably feel like Krusty The Clown from The Simpsons - "Taxes....Uhhhhhh!"

Here's a real easy way to actually make money during the tax season. You can put together a massage package designed for CPAs to relieve their stress level from the hectic tax season.

Think about what they are probably going through right now - working 12 hour days, overly demanding clients who wait until April 13th before making an appointment and then wondering why there are no appointments left, stiff necks and shoulders from being hunched over a computer all day, etc.

You can easily offer a solution to their problem.

Create a massage package that relieves aching lower backs, shouldersand necks. Give it a name like the "CPA Stress Buster Massage". Make the offer start on April 16th when the bulk of their workload is finished. If you offer it before the 16th, no one will be ableto take you up on it because that's their busiest time of year. So have it start immediately after the tax season ends.

Now, think of this - what other massage therapist is offering a massage package exclusively for CPAs that speaks their language and offers it immediately after April 15th when they're stressed out the most? No one that I can think of.

Do you think accountants will jump on this opportunity? You better believe it! THAT'S how you turn a usually depressing time of year - like the tax season - into a client-generating opportunity for your massage business. Just think to yourself, "How can I tie massage into the tax season?"

You can also offer your clients a special price during April to help their stress from the tax season. All it takes is a little thought and minimal effort to easily create income and more clients.

That's all for now. Take care!

JeffUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6410760369683977458.post-53136976426441244182008-03-04T18:27:00.006-05:002008-03-05T22:05:02.873-05:00How To Easily Get Massage Clients With St. Patrick's DayHere's an 'outside-the-box' way to tie St. Patrick's Day into your massage practice. And the best part is, absolutely no other massage therapist is doing this!

To begin with, you should always be thinking of ways to blend massage therapy with a holiday. Christmas, Mother's Day and Father's Day are easy because they're the best times of year for selling gift certificates, but there are problems with that as well.

First of all, every massage therapist/day spa/holistic center is also promoting their massage gift certificates. You have even more competition during those times of the year. And not just them - almost every business on the planet, it seems, is offering some form of gift certificates or gift cards during those times.

Now, you also should be promoting yourself during these times of year, of course, but there is a goldmine of clients that you can easily and quickly generate from holidays that are usually ignored by other massage therapists and day spas.

St. Patrick's Day is only a couple of weeks away. Let's use that as an example. First, I'm going to tell you what NOT to do that most massage therapists and day spas do. DON'T just offer a '50% St. Patrick's Day Special'. Why not? For starters, what's the reason for the sale? Why is St. Patrick's Day so special? What's the connection?

I'm sure you'll still get some sales if you did this kind of promotion, but that's not the angle I'm suggesting. What you should always be thinking to yourself is, "What problem does (blank) have that massage can solve? How can I tie massage into (holiday/trend/niche)?"

Now, take a close look at St. Patrick's Day. How do most people celebrate this holiday? By drinking - sometimes to excess. What do people experience if they drink too much? Hangovers - nausia, headache, dehydration.

What's one of the most common features that every single massage practitioner has in their literature? "Massage flushes out toxins". I'm sure you have it written somewhere in your marketing material. But let me ask you this: Are you getting enough clients that way? Are people really making appointments with you because they read in your brochure that, "...massage flushes out toxins..."? I'm guessing probably not.

You see, people just don't respond to boring, overused phrases that don't mention specific benefits to them in language that they understand and respond to. Phrases such as, "...massage flushes out toxins..." just doesn't inspire people to pick up the phone and schedule an appointment with you. Yes, massage does fush out toxins. But it's also a cliche anymore. And it doesn't spark interest. Does getting your toxins flushed out sound like a lot of fun? Me, neither.

It almost sounds like nuclear waste. The words - toxins, waste & nuclear - usually appear together in some combination. Most people already have that connection somewhere in the back of their minds, so you don't want to use that angle in your marketing. Many therapists who specialize in lymphatic drainage massage make this mistake in their marketing.

What does lymphatic drainage massage do? It helps flush out waste products from the lymph system. You can now design a 'St. Patrick's Day Hangover Helper' massage session that helps the body flush out all the toxins from imbibing a little too much (you can come up with a better name for it than I just did, just be sure to give it a name using common language - not some massage terminology that no one understands but us in the business).

You should incorporate any other modality you know that helps people feel better from the effects of too much glug, glug, glug such as a using effleurage strokes, aromatherapy oils that helps cleanse the lymph system and/or liver, specific reflexology points that correspond with the liver and lymph system, Bach Flower Essences, bottle of water to rehydrate themelves, ginger tea to help settle their stomach, etc. You get the idea.

This benefits both you and your clients in many ways:

1. You're offering a specific massage package that no other therapist or day spy is offering. That alone separates you from the herd and gives you a big advantage over anyone else.

2. You're offering a massage package that many people can easily relate to, even if they don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day or don't drink at all. It's still well known that many people do drink to excess that night and 9 out of 10 will feel hungover to some degree the next day - sometimes days. The topic of hangovers from celebrating St. Patrick's Day is talked about on every morning news show in America that day - year in, year out - but YOU'LL be the only massage therapist smart enough to tap into that market!

3. You don't have to slash your prices to get business! Because you literally are the only massage therapist offering this kind of package during this particular holiday, they can't compare apples to apples. They have nothing to compare it to. It's special. They can't call the next massage therapist listed in the phone book, ask for this type of massage, and get it. You can offer a small discount if you want, but you're not going to have to fall into the trap of drastically undercutting yourself like many therapists, unfortunately, do.

4. Generate even more business by creating a sense of ugency. This type of offer would make more sense if it only lasted a few days. You can use this to your advantage. You can say in your sales letter that you're only offering this type of massage this week only. It's not part of your 'menu', for lack of a better word. People are naturally drawn to things that only have a limited number or time available. If something looks too available, many times it's not taken seriously. You'll be surprised at the number of people who will take advantage of this massage package simply because they know they can't get it any other time of year. It makes it look much more attractive.

5. Press coverage! If you know how to write a press release (if not, go to http://www.hartunian.com/. He's the master of press releases). The medial loves new and interesting things like that. It wouldn't surprise me if you actually got picked up by stations like CNN and MSNBC. And why wouldn't they? Heck, I've seen them do spots on kosher dog food. Your local media would probably eat it up!

How long should this promotion be? I'd offer it during the week of St. Patrick's Day only. It would have lost it's momentum by April 1st, which is only two weeks away. This is, I believe, a little more time sensitive than other offers. Again, make it sure you state that this is a very limited offer and either won't be offered again this year, or may never be offered again - which very well may be true.

If you really don't get a strong response from it (maybe your clientele isn't interested in this particular offer), you can simply drop it. No need to try to push it down your clients throats, which I've actually witnessed some therapists trying to do with certain massage modalities (that's a topic for another blog altogether).

The beauty of this kind of massage package is that even for people who don't drink, or don't drink to exess, or even celebrate St. Patrick's Day can still relate to this package and take advantage of it. It's a great way to keep that connection with your current clients, reactivate past clients or entice new prospects.

However, in order to be able to craft the best message you can, you need learn the most effective massage marketing strategies (and here's a hint - your massage school didn't teach them to you).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
