Hi everyone! I'm going to let you in on a secret to the #1 biggest mistake massage therapists make in their massage therapy business when it comes to selling massage gift certificates.

You see, when you're marketing massage therapy - especially your Mother's Day gift certificates - you should be tailoring your marketing material more toward men than women.

Why is this so?

To start with, too many practitioners and day spas have only one message - "Mother's Day Massage Gift Certificates Sold Here!" Their message isn't any different from each other at all. It all looks the same.

Not the way we're going to do it!

First, you're going to be much more successful targeting men than women (even though women have mothers too, of course). But men are more prone to not having a good gift in mind. We're all guilty of that (as I'm sure every woman reading this already knows).

You also have to keep in mind that you have to be able to sell to the potential buyer first before you go on and on about what the massage experience will be like. You MUST think to yourself, "What's in it for them? Why should they buy from me? How can I make their buying process much easier for them?"

In short - really, really think of how you can give solutions to a person (men, especially) in that situation which in this case is figuring out what to buy their mom or wife for Mother's Day.

I suggest that you cater toward men more so than women because women generally have an easier time picking out the right gift for their loved ones. Men on the other hand...uh...well...we need help!

Men also have to buy for their mother, grandmother, wife or girlfriend (if kids are involved) and are secretly filled with anxiety every year whether we show it or not.

Now let's back up and spruce this massage package up a bit.

Instead of calling it a "Mother's Day Massage Gift Certificate", how about naming it something fun that mothers can identify with.

How about "Queen For A Day" massage. Or "Leave Me Alone, It's Mommy's Day" massage.

You can also name it, "Kid Free, Husband Free" massage. "It's All About Mom" is a good one.

You can also offer a 15-minute foot soak, Belgian chocolates and a glass of wine before or after their session.

You see, stressed-out moms can identify with those terms and have fun with them. The more personality I add into my massage packages, the better response I get. People crave something fun and different that they can connect with. I can't stress that fact enough.

You should absolutely be opening up your mind when you're writing your massage business plan.

Your headline and body copy can look something like this:



"How To Get Tons More Affection From Your (mother/wife/girlfriend) This Mother's Day For Only $50!"
Are you busy? Pre-occupied with work? Too exhausted to even think about what to get for Mother's Day? Maybe you're tired of the typical 'dinner and flowers' idea year in, year out.
